CHARLES MOORE, LONDON
A RARE .730 PERCUSSION 'CONTRACT' CAVALRY CARBINE, no visible serial number,
circa 1840-45, with 20 3/4in. browned twist barrel, applied blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, solid top-tang, borderline engraved bar-action lock of sporting style signed 'C. MOORE' dipped at the tail, walnut 'Victoria Carbine' style full-stock, brass furniture including lower tang with raised spur, iron saddle-bar and ring to left hand side and captive iron ramrod, appearing little used
Other Notes: Two small letter 'L' s are stamped in the wood behind the lower tang, similar to date letters belonging to the East India Company 1842/43. It is most likely that this is one of a number of varying specification carbines from diverse makers acquired by that company for Colonial consumption
