26 1/4in. black powder only barrels with partially matted rib, open sights with two folding leaf sights, marked 50/150, 200 and 250, ramped bead fore-sight, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON. WINNERS OF ALL THE "FIELD" RIFLE TRIALS. LONDON.', Jones patent rotary underlever, carved percussion fences, elongated top strap, rebounding back-action locks with bolted dolphin hammers, border engraving, the left side of the action bar engraved 'CHARGE 4 DRAMS CASE 3 1/4 INCHES', retaining traces of renewed colour-hardening, 14 3/4in. well-figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, pistolgrip-cap, sling swivels and horn buttplate, fore-end with grip-catch release, weight 8lb. 14oz., in its leather case
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was made as "a .450 , back action long top strap, lever over guard, bolted rebounding locks, lever forend, pistol hand'. It appears to have been finished on 2nd October 1891 for 'Wallace' and sold again through them in 1989 to a C. H. Maspers
