for between 1855-58, with 31 1/2in. oval-bored barrel signed '151 NEW BOND ST, LONDON' behind the rear-sight flanked at both ends by 'LANCASTER'S PATENT' (rubbed), block and blade fore-sight, 1000 yard ladder rear-sight, London proofs as a '25-bore' at breech, solid top-tang, borderline engraved bar-action lock and hammer, the bar signed 'C. LANCASTER PATENT', walnut three-quarter stock of Pattern '56 type with iron furniture including heel-plate, trigger guard tang and bow, two barrel-bands, nose-cap and iron cup-ended ramrod, strong traces of probable original finish
