A SCARCE DAGGER WITH GUTTA-PERCHA HILT,
circa 1881 and probably for the South American market, with 5in. semi leaf-shaped blade signed 'SLATER BROTHERS, SHEFFIELD' at the forte (some mild staining), thin oval white-metal cross-guard, moulded collar and gutta-percha moulded hilt in the shape of a reversed lion's leg with up-turned claw foot, originally clasping a cabochon (now absent), Victorian 'kite' registration mark near guard and complete with its white-metal mounted leather scabbard with stud for a frog (absent)
