almost certainly converted from needlefire circa 1860, with octagonal 26in. barrel, fore-sight with side protectors, twin white metal lines at muzzle, short dove-tail to the top-flat near breech for the carved adjustable rear-sight, the top of barrel throat inlet in silver with 'F.V. DREYSE, SOMMERDA' (small losses to inlay), the top of breech marked 'PATENT', octagonal receiver with isolated engraved panels, chequered turned down 'butter-knife' bolt-handle, safe to rear of bolt, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (repaired blind crack to right of receiver) the top of wrist fitted with a socket for peep-sight (absent), exaggerated raised cheek-piece, iron butt-plate with engraved top-spur, complex engraved trigger guard bow, double set triggers and plain schnabel fore-end
