for 1855, with octagonal twist 31 3/4in. barrel (signature erased), broad dove-tailed blade front-sight, standing notch and single folding leaf rear-sight (blanked off dovetail for a multi-leaf sight), platinum plug to the moulded snail, engraved short top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock of flint form signed 'W. & J. RIGBY', walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, plain iron patch-box to right rear of butt, iron heel-plate with long top-spur, raised chequered spur to lower tang, single set trigger, replacement moulded horn fore-end tip and no provision for ramrod
Provenance: The Rigby records note this rifle no. 10708 as a "single 22-bore brass-mounted four-groove of 32in. made for an 'S. Maynard'".
The records also note "The heavy octagonal barrel is signed W. & J. Rigby, Dublin. The detented lock is signed W. & J. Rigby, Dublin and has a single set trigger with a scroll guard. There is a rectangular patchbox in the butt"
