for between 1845-49 and converted by the maker from a 38-bore percussion rifle, with two-stage 29in. damascus barrel (spun down from full octagonal), traces of the Dover Street address to top-flat, blanked off rear-sight dove-tail, strongly flared single-bite Jones-type swing under-lever action, bar-action lock signed 'JNO MANTON & SON, PATENT' and engraved with a scene of stags within a border and scrolls, sliding safe behind the dolphin head engraved hammer, figure walnut straight hand butt-stock chequered at the wrist and heel, iron furniture including scrolled pistol-grip lower tang, carved and moulded lower action body and under-lever and short splinter fore-end with single barrel key
