(No. 16537), wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, No. 16537 bore dimensions marginal, self-opening actions with removable striker discs, toplevers engraved 'PATENT' (No. 14569) and '2' (No.16537), automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, arrow cocking-indicators, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, retaining traces of renewed colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/8in. figured replacement stocks, fore-end wood No. 14569 with light damage and repairs and coarsely rechequered, weight 7lb. (No. 14569) and 6lb. 9oz. (No. 16537), in a Purdey brass-cornered oak and leather case with charges label for gun no. 14569
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that gun no. 14569 was completed as a 12-bore double-barrelled hammerless ejector gun with 30in. barrels in 1893 for J.T. Richardson and that gun no. 16537 was built to match, for the same client, in 1899
