of British '1796' style but probably mid to late 19th century, with broad fullered strongly curved 33in. hatchet tipped blade, iron 'P' shaped hilt with straight cross-guard, single turned down quillion, broad langets, ribbed leather covered grip, doveshead back-strap with broad ears and matching number iron scabbard (shallow pitted), both sword and scabbard with many issue and re-issue regimental markings, mostly struck out
