A FRENCH MODEL 1831 'GLADIUS' ARTILLERY SHORT SWORD, dated 1836, with 19 1/4 in. double-edged steel blade with inspection marks and engraved 1836 date to one side of ricasso with Chatellerault arsenal over, brass hilt and cross-guard, stamped '650', together with a black leather scabbard with brass fittings, stamped '855', worn with staining to blade, denting to the hilt, shallow denting to the scabbard fittings, locket frog loop folded upwards, leather worn, 26 in. overall
