circa 1870, with blued octagonal mid-weight slightly tapering 28in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION N.Y.', dove-tailed fore-sight with nickel blade, elevating buckhorn rear-sight, colour hardened frame with blued rolling breech and external hammer, the left side of action marked 'PATENTS' above five lines of patents with dates, plain top-tang fitted with blanking screws for an aperture sight, walnut butt-stock with moulded colour-hardened semi crescent heel-plate, plain trigger and walnut splinter fore-end with schnabel tip inlet with an ebony fillet, the whole retaining much original colour and finish
