circa 1865, with 28in. heavy octagonal barrel, traces of signature to top-flat, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with two additional folding leaves (large areas of pitting), engraved long top-tang (repaired, one top-nail replaced), border and scroll engraved brushed bright bar-action lock signed 'I. HOLLIS & SONS', together with a circular I. Hollis War Department trademark stamp, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (left side of fore-end cracked and with inlet repair around barrel key), iron furniture including finger-spurred lower tang and substantial brass mounted ramrod (under-rib lifting)
