circa 1900, with 33 1/2in. octagonal blued barrel, dove-tailed ramp fore-sight, elevating tangent rear-sight on a sliding scaled dove-tail mount, the top of barrel marked 'ACIER FONDU' and 'R. WIDMER BIENNE' (with reversed letter 'N's), slab-sided receiver with faint traces of colour and marked 'ROBERT WIDMER SOLOTHURN' centrally on the right face, figured walnut butt-stock with shallow raised cheek-piece and Swiss-style iron heel-plate, the right side with central nickel oval escutcheon engraved 'J WINISTORPER, BALSTHAL', complex trigger guard forming the under-lever, double set triggers and walnut beavertail fore-end with schnabel tip, fitted with a period leather sling
