A CASED .32 (RIMFIRE) SHARPS & HANKINS FOUR SHOT BREECH-LOADING PISTOL BY TIPPING & LAWDEN, CIRCA 1865, serial no 5733,
with 3in. Birmingham proofed four shot barrel cluster, brass frame with traces of silver plating, stamped on the left in a circle 'TIPPING & LAWDEN, SHARPS PATENT', sheath trigger and two-piece foliate embossed gutta-percha grips, action at fault, contained in its blue baize-lined and partitioned case with burr walnut lid
Provenance: The Birmingham firm of Tipping & Lawden manufactured these four barrel pistols from 1860 under licence from Christian Sharps, the design was protected in Britain by British patent No 207 of 22 Jan. 1859
