A .22LR 'MODELL TELL' SINGLE-BARRELLED PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 145473,
for 1927, 24 1/4in. black powder only barrel with open sights and bead fore-sight, matt sight flat at the breech end with banner engraved 'TELL. CAL. 22 LONG.', earlier design winged safety, pin cocking-indicator, set triggers, border line engraving, reblacked finish, 14 1/8in. semi-pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, sling swivels and horn buttplate, fore-end retaining screw possible replacement, weight 5lb. 5oz.

The Sauer Tell 22LR was owned by Carl Haxthausen, married to my grandmother in her second marriage. Carl had no children so a son of my grandmother, my father's brother inherited the gun, and after him I inherited the gun.
Carl Haxthausen (1901 - 1993) was a baron and a very well known writer. He wrote numerous books about nature, game shooting and his own life. He also wrote many articles in newspapers about the same subjects. One of these was about his and my trip to a tiny island in the bay of Odense (Vigelsø). I was very young and had just got my shooting license. I will never forget this trip.

Carl Maximilian Thorvald baron Haxthausen was born on the 25th September 1901 in Jaegerspris. He studied at Herlufsholm and trained in the timber trade, agriculture and fruit growing. In 1933 he became the owner of Skarridshu's Orchard and Agriculture. He was Chairman of the insurance company Eske and of Danske Frugtavleres Haglskedeforsikring; Deputy Chairman of the board of Storm-and Hailskadeforsikringsselskabet Ly and Vice President of Denmark's Nature Conservation Association and member of the association's committee. He received the Nature Conservation Award in 1980 and the Boganis Award in 1981. He passed on the 9th June 1993 and was interned at the Holmstrup Cemetery, Holbaek
Other Notes: the 'Tell' rifle was first introduced in 1896 as a light, slim and handy stalking and sporting rifle. Offered in numerous rimfire and centre fire cartridges, it was produced until 1936, when it was replaced by the Einheits-Kipplaufbuchse 36
