for 1879, second model, 24 1/4in. octagonal barrel signed on the top-flat, plain receiver with sliding dust-cover running on an applied screwed-down rail and with chequered oval thumb-piece, central hammer, the top-tang marked 'MODEL 1873' and drilled with an additional threaded mounting hole for a tang-sight, walnut butt-stock with crescent iron heel-plate and central sliding trapdoor, brass cartridge lifter engraved 'FROM F.T. BAKER, 88 FLEET STREET LONDON, No. 4407', plain fore-end and full-length under-barrel magazine, the whole stripped of finish with some thin staining in places, detail well maintained
