Product Details

A .577/.450 MARTINI HENRY MARK IV PATTERN C SERVICE RIFLE MARKED ENFIELD, serial no. B5398, no visible serial number,
dated 1887, with 32 1/2in. sighted barrel with ramped front sight, proof and inspection marks, dropping block lever action, small cocking indicator, receiver stamped with a Queen's crown, 'VR / ENFIELD / 1887 / lock-viewer's mark / IV / I' plus inspection marks, walnut stock, butt with Rawalpindi roundel, various dates and numbers, plus Nepalese script, complete with sling swivels and cleaning rod, service wear with some minor losses to the stock, heavy dark shellacked stock making butt markings difficult to decipher

Provenance: The 'IV' on the receiver is off-set under the lock-viewer's mark, with the 'I' being directly under the point of the arrow, as receivers recycled from the aborted Enfield Martini project had an extra Roman numeral 'V' stamped alongside the original 'I'. These were designated as the Martini Henry MkIV Pattern 'C', or "conversions", whilst those rifles made as new pieces, from new components which were rifled to .577/.450" were known as Martini Henry Pattern 'B".
