A COLT NEW SERVICE .455 REVOLVER, serial no. 67383, for 1914, with blued 5 1/2in. barrel, blued solid frame with swing-out fluted cylinder, replacement walnut coarsely chequered grips, much finish remaining and with a period leather full-flap holster inked 'P.M. GOSSE K.R.R.' and a cleaning rod

Provenance: The vendor has kindly provided us with the following information:

Purchased by my grandfather 'EMG' Captain Ernest Marsen Gosse MC & Bar in WWI and carried by my father 'PMG' Major Peter Marson Gosse MC in WWII, both men enlisted as Privates at the very outset of WWI and WWII.
Both were only sons, the chances of their survival as front-line soldiers were slender indeed. Grandfather after marrying in January 1918, returned to the front line where he was awarded a Bar to his Military Cross. Father gained a commission and attended STC Lochailort before fighting in North Africa, Italy and from Normandy to Denmark. When his commanding officer wrote to him congratulating him on being awarded the MC, he concurred that "it was earned well before I ever joined the Battalion from what I hear and was well deserved".
Attached are some excerpts from a record of my grandfather and father's service records in two world wars that my brother and I compiled. We never knew our grandfather and like so many front-line soldiers, father rarely spoke much about his war. His mother kept everything he sent home throughout, and father compiled the scrap book pictured here, it bears testament to two generations of men and women who were prepared to selflessly risk all for their country and freedom from tyranny.
The 60th Rifles was indeed an exceptional Brigade.
Father took 'A' Company 2nd Battalion KRRC into Southern Jutland before VE Day in 1945, where he first met our mother.
