AN EXTREMELY RARE .450 (NO. 1) KERR'S PATENT BOLT-ACTION SPORTING RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1870, with 28 1/2in. reblued London proofed barrel rifled with five segmental grooves, block and blade foresight and short carbine style ladder rear-sight to 800 yards, the breech marked 'KERR'S / PATENT', early type bolt action with internal firing pin fired by a standard sporting style side-action lock and external hammer, the bolt, lock and hammer profusely scroll engraved, the lock with 'JAS KERR', to the centre, figured walnut half stock with chequered wrist and fore-end, horn nosecap and rubber buttpad, the stock in excellent condition sharp and crisp

Provenance: The patent protecting this system was taken out by James Kerr in 1867 Patent No 3616, very few examples are known to exist
