A RARE, LARGE-SIZE TURN-OVER 25-BORE PERCUSSION OVERCOAT PISTOL SIGNED WESTLEY RICHARDS, no visible serial number,
circa 1840, with plain 1 7/8in. barrels falsely rifled at muzzle for a key (frozen), engraved and moulded centre-ribs at breech, underslung nipple-guard, border and scroll engraved boxlock action with radiused edges and signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS' on the left and 'LONDON' on the right, borderline engraved central hammer with dolphin head and spur, top-tang safe behind the hammer, finely chequered walnut butt with white metal oval escutcheon at wrist, the heel swelling and borderlined and fitted with an engraved and moulded iron cap with central trapdoor, concealed automatic trigger, strong traces of colour remaining
