A RARE PAIR OF MINIATURE JAPANESE SWORDS, POSSIBLY FOR A BOY,
mid 19th century, both unsigned, the 'katana' with 9 1/4in. blade of traditional form, the 'wakisashi' with similar 6in. blade, both swords with copper habaki carved with 'cat scratches', horn tsubas with florally gilded edges (some loss to decoration), horn hilt fittings, bronze bird of paradise menuki beneath cotton binding (one amateur rebound) and complete with their black lacquered sayas with green fleck and moulded with ridges for the first third, horn fittings, the kurikata on the katana broken, the wakisashi with an engraved nickel kogai in a side-pocket
