Provenance: the vendor has kindly provided us with the following information:

"ASW is Captain A.S. "Bengy" Wills, 18th Hussars, 1877-1961 and father of Major John Wills. He fought in the Boer War and was recalled as a cavalry reservist in WWI. Of the 10 Officers recalled he was one of two to survive the first night back in the trenches.
He used to own the Applecross Estate, Wester Ross where this magazine would principally have been used. In 1975 Major John Wills constructed a charity to look after the Estate in its entirety which it still does to this day."
