Product Details

AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE AND UNUSUAL .177 REVERSE-PISTON UNDER-LEVER AIR-RIFLE, THE 'WRAY GUN', serial no. WG003,
believed circa 1995, with slide forwards to load 19 1/2in. barrel with bolt-action operation, no provision for open sights, under-slung compression chamber with reverse-firing piston, under-lever cocking, hand-carved mahogany butt-stock with stippled pistol-grip, match-grade ring-trigger, no provision for fore-end and fitted with swivels and a leather basketweave sling, the action mounted with a period Kassnar 3-9x40 telescopic sight, together with a copy of a magazine article on the rifle

Provenance: The brainchild of Tony Wray from Humberside, the Wray Gun (if you will forgive the pun) is a very unique rifle. By all accounts, Tony was disillusioned by the offerings from mainstream airgun manufacturers, so set about designing his own. Interesting design features apparently allow the guide tube, spring and piston to be withdrawn with a simple tool (not present) in around 15 seconds. The spring (from a Weihrauch HW77) is pre-tensioned ensuring long life and smooth cocking. The slide-forward barrel further gives all the benefits of a fixed barrel design in a shorter length. Recoil is kept to a minimum, and despite the rather ungainly looking stock, the whole rifle balances extremely well. Tony stated in 2003 that he had made two of the rifles for himself, with a further four or five being sold to the public before he became bored with the repetitive nature of the manufacture and ceased production!
