A .577 SNIDER / ENFIELD MK III BREECH-LOADING TWO BAND SERVICE RIFLE BY B.S.A. serial no. 1615,
circa 1872, with 30 1/2in. Birmingham Ordnance marked steel barrel, rifled with five grooves, fitted with bayonet lug at muzzle, barleycorn front-sight and ladder rear-sight, the breech with positive bolt locking Mk III action, the lock stamped with the Crown V.R. cypher on the tail and 'B.S.A. Co / 1872', to the centre, regulation iron mounted full walnut stock, the left side of the butt stamped 'D.C.' (Dominion of Canada) inside a diamond, and '30 /362', on the heel of the butt, probably Canadian Militia unit markings, with correct style replacement rod
