* A SUBSTANTIAL 8-BORE RIFLED WHEELOCK WALL-GUN, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
in the late 17th century style and almost certainly from that period, with heavy 51 1/4in. octagonal iron barrel, dove-tails for front and rear-sights (sights absent), oval depression near breech for a maker's poincon (missing), slightly flaring top-tang fixed from beneath with later top-nail added behind, plain lockplate and cock, the wheel concealed behind a plate, walnut full-stock with circular bone escutcheons for the three side-nails, raised and moulded cheek-piece with drum moulding to underside of butt acting as a counterweight, the right side behind lock with oval bone escutcheon initialled 'G.F.H.', filled inlet for an aperture sight to comb (sight absent), exaggerated angled heel-plate, iron trigger guard with three finger-grooves, plain trigger (mechanism untested), moulded flutes along the fore-end and iron hook at muzzle (now bent flat), no provision for ramrod, weight approximately 25lb.
