A RARE .577/.450 MARTINI HENRY 'MARK IV PATTERN A' SERVICE RIFLE MARKED ENFIELD, serial number A5331,
dated 1887, with 32 1/2in. sighted barrel with short knoxform bridge, proof and inspection marks, plus 'A5331', dropping block lever action, small cocking indicator, receiver stamped with a Queens crown, 'VR / ENFIELD / 1887 / lock-viewer's mark / IV / I.' plus inspection marks, walnut stock, butt with indistinct roundel, various stamped numbers and a Rawalpindi 'RP', repositioned lever cup to accommodate the lengthened lever and the earlier cup plugged, complete with sling swivels and cleaning rod, worn with a significant loss to the left side of the fore-end ahead of the barrel band where it meets the barrel, butt has a loss from the toe and inset repairs, rear sight leaf with damage

Provenance: The Pattern A was a conversion of the existing Enfield Martini MkI pattern A with a new receiver and re-bored and re-rifled barrel, with the brass stock cup repositioned to correspond with the long lever's tip with the old hole plugged. This example has had a hard service life and likely replacement parts but remains a rare survivor
