A 12-BORE SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 57320,
for 1908, 28in. sleeved nitro barrels (in 1991), rib inscription scrubbed, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/2 choke, automatic safety with blue enamelled 'SAFE' detail, double rolled-edge triggerguard, fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14 5/8in. well-figured replacement stock (cast on for the left shoulder), weight 6lb. 8oz., in a leather case

Provenance: A copy of the Army & Navy records (supplied with the Lot) has gun No. 57320 as being ordered sold on the 30th September 1908 to a J. Dewrance Esq, at a cost of 51 guineas to 'pair with 38191'. The records list workers involved in the making of the gun as 'E. Hodges, Squires and G Osborne, with E Hodges finishing the gun and the individual invoice dates for these workers run from 1st June 1908 to 6th October 1911. Of the 12 guns listed on the page, this is the only one listed at 51 guineas (the others mostly costing 45 or 47).

J. Dewrance may refer to Sir John Dewrance, GBE FKC (13th March 1858 - 7th October 1937), a British Inventor and mechanical engineer, a known keen shot and deerstalker outside of his professional life
