A .704 PERCUSSION PATTERN 1843 TYPE 2 EAST INDIA COMPANY BRUNSWICK RIFLE BY E. S. BAKER, rack no 45,
circa 1843, with 30in. barrel rifled with two grooves, struck at the breech with London proofs and engraved 'E. S. BAKER & SON, 24 WHITECHAPEL ROAD LONDON', fitted with bayonet bar at muzzle, blade front-sight and leaf rear-sight, borderline engraved side-action lock with rampant lion cypher to centre and 'E. S. BAKER & SON / 1843', bun-nut retained hammer, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock with scroll trigger-guard and large rectangular patchbox, the left side of the butt with indistinct issue markings, complete with sling swivels and correct rod
Provenance: The Pattern 1843 Type 2 Brunswick rifle was produced for the East India Company circa 1843 to 1846 before being superseded by the Pattern 1843 Type 2a, the only difference being to the bayonet bar. E. Baker contracted to supply 500 to the E.I.C. in 1843 of which this is one. The majority of E.I.C. Brunswick rifles were issued to Sikh regiments of the Punjab Frontier Force on serving on the North West Frontier
