almost certainly John Williamson of London circa 1776, with 36in. octagonal to round barrel, engraved band and moulded girdle at the intersection, bead fore-sight on star ground, London proofs, makers mark 'I.W' (rubbed) and a large number '18' to the left top-flat, top-tang with sighting groove ground flat in antiquity, bevel-edged stepped tailed lock signed 'WILLIAMSON' below the rainproof pan, swan necked cock and roller to the frizzen-spring, walnut one-piece hand-rail 'banana' full-stock, iron galleon-hull heel-plate, iron trigger-guard with acorn finial, finely cast and pierced silver sideplate featuring hanging game and a hunting dog, rococco silver escutcheon to the wrist surmounted by an eagle, three plain barrel keys and replacement wood ramrod
