A GOOD CASED PAIR OF .600 PERCUSSION SIDE-HAMMER BELT PISTOLS BY VAUGHAN, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1840, with 4 1/2in. octagonal smoothbore barrels, the top-flats signed 'C. VAUGHAN, STRAND, LONDON', engraved band at muzzles, bead fore-sights, standing notch rear-sights, borderline and scroll engraved top-plates, border and scroll engraved side-hammer boxlock actions, sliding safes behind the engraved hammers, finely chequered walnut butts with heavy domed iron pommel-caps, central trap-doors, guarded triggers and captive under-barrel iron ramrods, both pistols lightly cleaned of finish and in their manufacturer's walnut storage case with ebony stringing (some losses to stringing), lined and compartmented in green baize and containing the pistols along with a scissors mould, small flask, loading rod and bone nipple-pot, all apparently original to the pistols and with parchment indented corner Charles Vaughan trade label inside lid
