A CASED 48-BORE PERCUSSION WEBLEY LONGSPUR (SECOND MODEL) FIVE-SHOT REVOLVER RETAILED BY DOUGALL, GLASGOW, serial no. 414,
circa 1854, with 6 7/8in. blued octagonal sighted barrel signed 'J.D. DOUGALL, GLASGOW' and engraved with a border at the muzzle, plain colour-hardened cylinder numbered from '1' to '5' and engraved with a band to the front edge, borderline and scroll engraved hinged frame and grip-strap, the left side engraved 'JAMES WEBLEY PATENTEE' in a banner, the backstrap serial numbered and engraved 'BY HER MAJESTY'S ROYAL LETTERS PATENT', chequered walnut grips, engraved pommel with eyelet for lanyard ring, borderline and scroll engraved trigger-guard and rammer, the rammer mounted on the right side of the frame pivoting on the barrel-hinge screw, Birmingham proof marks, strong amount of finish and colour remaining, in a partially relined and fitted English market oak case and with some accessories including a Bartram powder-flask, an original brass 'William Davis' single-cavity 48-bore bullet mould, a cleaning rod and nipple key, breech-brush and cap and grease tins, the lid with circular brass escutcheon, the inside of lid with Frederick Smith, Birmingham trade label
