A .577 SNIDER BREECH-LOADING VOLUNTEER RIFLE BY LONDON ARMOURY COMPANY, no visible serial number,
circa 1863, with 36in. Birmingham proofed barrel, barleycorn front-sight and ladder rear-sight, the breech block of Mk I type with shaped lifting latch engraved 'No 40', and 'SNIDER'S / PATENT' to the top, the lock bearing the Crown V.R. cypher on the tail and '1863 / L.A.CO', to the centre, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock with chequered wrist and fore-end, complete with its original rod, this rifle was originally a P53 muzzle loader and an early conversion to a Snider breech loader probably in 1866
