A .450 PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED PARK or PEA RIFLE BY PURDEY, LONDON, serial no. 1146,
for 1827, with 28in. octagonal laminated barrel, the top-flat with refreshed signature 'I PURDEY No. 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET LONDON', fore-sight blade with tunnel protector, dove-tailed rearsight of a standing notch with two additional folding leaves, twin platinum lines and a platinum vent at breech, fully engraved top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'PURDEY', engraved hammer with bolted safe, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (heavily varnished in antiquity, some heavy bruising), raised cheek-piece, iron furniture including spurred lower tang, single set trigger and bun-headed brass mounted ebony ramrod

Provenance: According to Patrick Unsworth's book 'The Early Purdeys', this rifle was sold on the 29th August 1827 at a cost of £31. It was described as a 'small rifle', of .45 calibre with 28in. barrel and noted as second hand
