Product Details

A GOOD .52 PERCUSSION HARPERS FERRY HALL PATTERN MODEL 1841 CAPPING BREECH-LOADING RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1841, with 32 1/2in. barrel rifled with 7 grooves, the final 1 1/2in. at muzzle smoothbored, action stamped 'H. FERRY / U.S. / 1841', pivoting chamber loading action, iron mounted full walnut stock with three-barrel bands, exceptionally good condition overall with much fading original finish

Provenance: This example is a purpose made percussion rifle and not a conversion from flintlock as many were. It features a few differences over the flintlock model, one being the change in rifling to 7 groove and the 'fishtail' action release lever in front of the trigger-guard.
Just 4200 of these rifles were made at Harpers Ferry in 1841/42, some of which saw action in the U.S. Mexican War. Enterprising soldiers sometimes set the mechanism into home made wooden handles to make an improvised handgun
