AN OUTSTANDING CASED 62-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING RIFLE BY ALEX'R HENRY, serial no. 1653,
circa 1869, with browned damascus 30in. Henry rifled barrels, the flat top-rib signed 'ALEXr. HENRY 12 SOUTH ST ANDREWS ST EDINBURGH', the rib matted for its full length except the signed area, shallow raised ramp with beaded blade front-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the colour-hardened breech-block with bordered scrolls to the top and engraved platinum plugs, fully engraved colour hardened top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks (much colour remaining) signed in a banner 'ALEXr. HENRY' below the hammers, slab-sided fully scroll engraved moulded hammers of reverse 'C' form with dolphin heads and blued sliding safeties, chequered highly figured walnut pistol-grip half-stock (small chip to fore-end edge above left side of barrel key), chequered iron heel-plate, engraved trigger-guard bow and finial, scroll engraved ramrod throat, plain thimbles and original brass-mounted mahogany ramrod, much original finish and colour throughout and together with its manufacturers leather-covered oak-lined storage case, compartmented and lined in pale brown embossed leatherette and containing a comprehensive selection of accessories including the matching number bullet mould, a leather covered powder flask, a spring cramp, mahogany and nickel pots, Henry label inside lid (outer leather worn and crazed)

Provenance: Henrys records are sparse on this rifle. It is listed as a "Best double muzzle loading rifle 62 bore. Patent no. 1070". It was completed circa 1869
