for 1853, with blued octagonal 5in. barrel signed 'SAML. COLT' within a field of hairline scrolls, engraved band at muzzle, New-York style scrolls to the sides of barrel throat and side top-flats at breech, engraved rammer hinge with traces of colour, engraved barrel wedge with matching number, colour hardened open scroll engraved iron frame marked 'COLTS PATENT' in a void within the engraving, roll engraved five-shot cylinder with the majority of its safe pins remaining (finish faded), silver plated grip-straps with engraving to the back-strap, heel and trigger guard bow and highly figure smooth flaring walnut grips, much apparent original finish and colour throughout
