A FRENCH MODEL 1866 YATAGHAN SWORD BAYONET FOR THE CHASSEPOT RIFLE, dated 1867, with single-edged 22 1/2 in. steel blade fullered on each side, ricasso with inspection marks and St Etienne arsenal script on the blade back, quillioned cross-guard with inspection marks and numbered 'U 31058', brass hilt, together with its steel scabbard numbered to the bayonet, some staining to the blade and painted over rust patches on the scabbard, 27 3/4 in. overall
