circa 1900, 28in. replacement nitro barrels (No.1 in 1987 and No.2 in 1966), ribs engraved 'NEW BARRELS BY B.E. CHAPLIN. WINCHESTER' and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, treble-grip actions, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with engraved 'SAFE' details, marked with patent details for Deeley patent split stem extractor and V-spring and tumbler ejector, patent no. 14526 of 3rd November 1884, use numbers 381 and 384, Perkes patent ejectors, patent no. 10679 of 1886, use numbers 969 and 970, Scott patent gas checks, patent no. 617 of 1882, use numbers 5961 & 5962, border and acanthus scroll engraving, 15in. figured semi-pistolgrip stocks including 1in. rubber recoil pads, weight 7lb. 3oz. (No.1) and 7lb. (No.2), in their makers brass-cornered oak and leather case, the lid exterior embossed 'A.J. HILL. BASSETT'
