circa 1898, 28in. Whitworth-steel nitro chopperlump barrels, the ribs engraved 'J. BLANCH & SON. 29 GRACECHURCH STREET. LONDON', 'MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL' and '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/2 choke, treble-grip actions with gas checks, automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, profusely engraved with bold acanthus scrollwork with ornate bordering, the triggerguards incorporating '1' and '2', retaining traces of colour-hardening, minor chip to No.2 knuckle, 14 3/4in. figured stocks including buttplates, fore-ends with 'J. BLANCH & SON'S IMPROVED SNAP BOLT' lever releases, weight 6lb. 9oz.
