circa 1897, 29in. fine damascus nitro barrels, the rib engraved 'JOSEPH LANG & SON. 10 PALL MALL. LONDON.' and with acanthus scroll detailing towards the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both;
30in. nitro reproved steel barrels, chambers sleeved to 20-bore and almost certainly originally of Phillips 1893 'Vena Contracta' patent with 12-bore chambers and diminishing internal diameter to 20-bore at the muzzles, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, wall thicknesses at 20- and 18;
treble-grip action with carved stylised leaf fences, removable striker discs, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, left side mounted sidelever, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with fine floral bouquets, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 7/8in. figured stock including 1/2in. ebonite extension, weight 6lb. 3oz. (damascus barrels) and 6lb. 6oz., (steel barrels), in a re-lined brass-cornered oak and leather case (provision for damascus barrels only), with full complement of modern accessories, the case lid marked 'C. WYVILLE THOMSON'
