AN INTERESTING .450 PERCUSSION CARBINE SIGNED TOWER, no visible serial number, of two band artillery style and dated for 1859, with three-groove rifled 21 1/2in. sighted barrel, no provision for bayonet, military dated lock with a crown 'V.R.' device to tail, walnut full-stock, the underside of fore-end with squared inlet apparently for a metal plate (now absent), brass and iron furniture including a non regulation trigger guard and iron ramrod
Provenance: With exception to the bore, rear-sight and furniture, this carbine appears to follow the dimensions of the New Zealand contract
