DOUGALL 12-BORE 1860 PATENT 'LOCKFAST' SLIDE-AND-TILT SIDELEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 2446, for 1865 and likely converted from pinfire, 29 3/4in. black powder only reproved (for blank) damascus barrels, the tubes with flat-top breech sections, the rib engraved 'J.D. DOUGALL. INVENTOR & PATENTEE. 59 ST. JAMES'S ST. LONDON', (faint), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, wall thicknesses at 19, Dougall 'lockfast' patent action, patent no. 1128 of 7th May 1860, rearward facing push-down sidelever, back-action locks with non-rebounding hammers, border and partial scroll engraving, ther underside engraved 'J.D. DOUGALL'S PATENT LOCKFAST.' (faint), patinated finish, 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock with steel heel and toe plates, fore-end with cross-pin release catch (some losses at the tip), weight 6lb. 9oz.
