A PAIR OF 12-BORE 1864 PATENT LIFT-UP TOPLEVER BOXLOCK EJECTORS, serial no. 12247 / 8,
for 1909, 29in. nitro barrels, tubes engraved 'SIR J. WHITWORTH'S. FLUID PRESSED STEEL', the ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2', and engraved 'WILLIAM POWELL & SON. 35. CARR'S LANE. BIRMINGHAM.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. in all, William Powell patent lift-up toplevers, patent no. 1163 of 7th May 1864, use numbers 3175 and 3176, automatic safeties, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving surrounding central floral bouquets, retaining traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14in. figured stocks including buttplates, weight 6lb. 9oz. (both), in their makers brass-cornered leather case, together with two canvas and leather takedown gunslips

Provenance: This pair is accompanied by a copy of the makers original ledger stating that they were completed in 1909 for Captain W.R. Wingfield Digby.

Captain William Richard Wingfield Digby (1869 - 1944) was a Captain in the Rifle Brigade (4th Battalion).
