A GOOD AND RARE PATTERN 1803 FLANK OFFICER'S SABRE SIGNED GIBSON, THOMSON & CRAIG,
early 19th Century, with 31in. single-edged curved steel blade, fullered on each side, blue and gilt, engraved with the Royal arms and cypher, and marked 'GIBSON / THOMSON / & CRAIG / WARRANTED', gilt-brass stirrup-hilt with slotted guard pierced with scrolls and knuckle-guard with 'GR' cypher, original wire-bound grip, and lion's-head pommel, in original black leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts, the reverse of the locket impressed with 'GIBSON / THOMSON / & CRAIG / EDINBURGH' manufacturer's mark, some staining and a little surface rust to the blade, scabbard with shrinkage and wear, glued repairs, centre mount loose
