A GOOD SHARPS .44-90 (2 5/8in.) MODEL 1874 'OLD RELIABLE' SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 157197, with factory letter,
giving the date as 1876, with blued octagonal 30in. barrel signed 'SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT CONN.' forwards of the rear-sight and marked 'OLD RELIABLE' in a clipped corner rectangular panel forwards of that, calibre marking near breech, nickel bladed dove-tailed fore-sight, folding ladder rear-sight, colour hardened action with vertical dropping block and external lock (much colour remaining), numbered top-tang, walnut straight hand butt-stock with shallow crescent heel-plate, colour hardened under-lever, plain trigger and walnut splinter fore-end with schnabel tip, fitted with factory eyelets for sling, much original finish throughout and complete with a framed factory letter

Provenance: The factory letter states that this rifle was invoiced to a Chicago dealer, E.E. Eaton, on the 9th December, 1876. The price was listed at $38.
