Product Details

A PERCUSSION 10-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN BY JAMES PURDEY, serial no. 2343,
for 1832 and originally supplied as a 16-bore rifle, with unsigned well rebrowned 34in. bold damascus barrel, half top-rib at breech-end, scroll engraved top-tang, borderline engraved bar-action lock further engraved with a seated stag and signed 'PURDEY', engraved hammer with sliding safe behind, chequered walnut pistol-grip half-stock, the right side of butt fitted with a circular patch-box engraved with hunting dogs chasing a wild boar, single set trigger and heavy-duty ramrod

Provenance: It is possible that this Purdey, serial no. 2343 was originally supplied with two barrels, one in shot, the other a rifle. This is not recorded as being the case however so the other scenario is that it was converted at a later date. It was sold to a dealer, John Baker as a 'Round Rifle' on May 1st, 1832
