A RARE .303 "BOILING-OUT" BARREL-CLEANING FUNNEL, circa late 19th Century, nickel-plated, unmarked, these were introduced to be used with the new .303 rifles taking cordite ammunition so that boiling water could be poured down the bore from the chamber end to flush out the corrosive residues left by cordite propellant and mercuric primers, being a popular accessory for the range boxes of the period, 8 1/2 in.
