A CASED PAIR OF 14mm PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS SIGNED DEVISME, PARIS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1850, the re-blued (some fading) octagonal 10 1/4in. rifled barrels inlaid in raised white-metal script on the top-flat 'FM P. DEVISME A PARIS', dove-tailed bead fore-sights, standing notch rear-sights, scroll engraved breech-blocks with traces of colour, the engraving continuing onto the top-tangs and numbered respectively '1' and '2' in gold, bar-action locks with bold border and scroll engraving, the dolphin-headed hammers engraved en-suite, ebonised wood half-stocks with fluted butts featuring relief carved scrolled panels to each side of grip and to fore-end tips, iron furniture including spurred trigger-guards and spire pommels, no provision for ramrods, together with their manufacturer's walnut case, compartmented and lined in the Continental fashion using red velvet (faded with some staining), the inside of lid with gilt lettering 'DEVISME' within an oval border formed by the wording '26 BOULEVART DES ITALIENS, ARQUEBUSIER BREVETE' and containing a full complement of its as supplied original ebony handled accessories
