LANCASTER 12-BORE 1871 PATENT SIDELEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 4020, circa 1873, 29 3/4in. black powder only bold damascus barrels (likely slightly shortened, under-rib separated at muzzle, some heavy pitting and badly dented), the rib engraved 'A. LANCASTER. 27 SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. GROSVENOR SQr. LONDON.' and '1', 2 1/2in. chambers, true cyl. in both, E.C. Hodges triple bite action, patent no. 251 of 31st January 1871, carved percussion fences, rebounding back action locks, left hammer screw head detached, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, the lockplates signed 'A. LANCASTER. LONDON' in scrolling banners, 14 7/8in. figured stock including 2in. wooden extension, fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release (minor losses to edges of wood), weight 6lb. 15oz.
