A GOOD CASED PAIR OF 20-BORE PERCUSSION TRAVELLING or CARRIAGE BELT PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1840, with brown laminated octagonal 6in. barrels signed on the top-flats 'LONDON', border and scroll engraved colour hardened breech-blocks, bead fore-sights, fully engraved top-tangs with standing notch rear-sights, moulded nipple bosses with screwed plugs, border and scroll engraved diminutive curved back-action colour hardened locks signed 'MANTON & SON' and fitted with engraved dolphin-headed hammers with rear-mounted bolted safes, chequered walnut grips swelling at the pommel and fitted with engraved domed butt-caps with central traps, guarded triggers, London proofs and captive iron swivel ramrods below the barrel, the left side of each pistol with a sideplate mimicking the lockplate and fitted with a blued spring-steel belt-hook, strong amount of original finish to both pistols and complete with their oak storage case lined and compartmented in green baize and including a three-way flask, a further bag-shaped flask, a turn-screw, loading rod, spring cramp and a possibly later nipple or cap-pot, the inside of lid with John Manton & Son parchment trade-label
